Det är ovanligt att lyckas år 1 i DTM så det blir spännande att se om Tom kan hålla uppe denna fart när det blir på allvar.

Rookie Tom Blomqvist sets fastest lap time on day two

On the second of the three DTM test days at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, one of the DTM rookies set the fastest lap time. Tom Blomqvist, son of rally legend Stig Blomqvist and about to contest his first DTM season - at the wheel of a BMW M4 DTM - outpaced all the other drivers on site, on Wednesday. But with his lap time of 1:20.216 minutes, the Briton was just 0.093 seconds faster than his compatriot Gary Paffett in the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM. On the first day, the Audi drivers had opted for a conservative approach but today, Mattias Ekström completed the brand mix at the top of the time sheets by finishing third. His gap to the quickest amounted to 0.315 seconds.

The only `driver swap' took place at Audi Sport Team Phoenix. In the afternoon, Timo Scheider who contested the morning session was replaced by his team-mate Mike Rockenfeller. But both did without trying to set a really fast time. At the end of the day, they finished ninth (Scheider) and 13th (Rockenfeller) respectively.

Also involved were Martin Tomczyk (BMW, fourth), Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes-Benz, fifth), Maxime Martin (BMW, sixth), Timo Glock (BMW, seventh), Jamie Green (Audi, eighth), Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz, 10th), Edoardo Mortara (Audi, 11th) and Daniel Juncadella (Mercedes-Benz, 12th). Altogether, the gaps between the first 11 drivers amounted to a total of less than a second. And even if the cards aren't fully put on the table, while testing, the result makes you wish or more....

Distance-wise, the 13 drivers upped the ante, today. Together, they completed 1,575 laps at the 3.696-kilomretre circuit located in the Magdeburger Börde region, representing a total mileage of 5,821 kilometres - 550 kilometres more than on Tuesday. By completing 158 laps (=552 kilometres), Ekström was the busiest driver of the day.

The DTM tests at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will be continued on Thursday. Then, the DTM enthusiasts once again will have the chance of witnessing the preparations of the Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz teams on the grandstands and in the paddock free of charge. The morning session will run from 09.00 to 13.00hrs CEST (08.00 to 12.00hrs BST) and the afternoon session from 14.00 to 18.00hrs CEST.
