Race recap R2 Mantorp park. Arrived early afternoon and began to setup race camp, Rolle inspected the cars and gave them the ok after som extra attention to my wet condition tiers (new to this race) do he was concerned that I had bought illegal tiers or threaded them my self, but everything vas in order do it's the same tier as my dry setts V70A only difference a soft compound K22. Friday practice........... The car felt ok but it would soon be clear that my ignorance regarding the fuel starvation on the car was even worse on Mantorp park ☹️ I thought that maybe going 4th gear or en 5th gear on some places, would work as it did on Kinnekulle ring, but that was a big mistake, every lap going left hand turn after start/finish straight I got fuel starvation half way in too the turn and som times even as fast 1/3 of the turn, same goes for the left hand after Mjölby over the crest, and in some cases even the left hand turn out on start/finish straight? And that's with full tank of gas down to 3/4 of gas, after that it happens even in other turns 😥 But best time at practice in dry 01:31.5xx so that 01:30.xxx that was the goal for this year didn't seem that far off, and that's whit instead of hammering 4th gear efter goal straight left hander I was forced to throw in 5th gear because that did prolong the fuel starvation too the end off the turn, but it sacrifices acceleration on a 235hp car that's for sure 🙄 Man kan ju inte låta bli att fundera på vad fixat av detta kommer att spara i tid, för det känns ju verkligen som att kliva på bromsen ganska hårt flera gånger innan man har haltat sig ner till parisern. In the afternoon the rain came and I was cheering 😄 YES!!!!! Finally I get to test som tiers better suited for the task 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 First pass was scrubbing the tiers in wet 😂 but it was no difficult and holly smoke watt a grip in the end off the pass 😮 Going out on 1,7bar could and 2,2bar when I hit the pits. Second pass in wet it was time to start feeling for the edges off gripping, but I can hands down admit that I am no way near exploring the edges on grip for this tiers in wet and a best time of 01:44.xxx is I think at least some seconds of pace if I just learn to thrust the grip. Saturday/race day. A very cloudy but warm weather. Q1. From previous experience this is we're you lay down your fastest time, but this race that was not going to happen. Before we went out on are attempt group 2 club challenge, a car in the previous group 1 hade lost a wheel I think and sub stain some damage, so rescue team was out on the track fixing the problem and towing the car in too the pits, that meant that time from are session was gone. First out I was trying to pick up som heat in the tiers first lap followed by a attack lap, but unfortunately I had just slightly cold tiers and lost grip going in too Mjölby turn and a massive power slide was the result, ending up that I had to go out in the sand and grass getting control of the car, did a short run on the grass before getting on to the track, to make shore that I left as much sand of the track, on the track again I decided that a fast lap was going to be made, but must have had som debris on the tiers, because the grip wasn't there, and a fastest time of 01:32.2xx was made, that lap was finish flag and we only got one out lap and 2 laps after that, a shame really do I think I could have made a better lap that session 😔 Q2 The diffuser was damaged during q1 so that went off. Really stressed out about not getting a fast lap in q1 I forgot all about racers line and all, and the reptile brain kicked in "back to Stone Age" just kept hammering that gas pedal and over breaking in the corners going to fast in and breaking too late, in an desperate effort to get that 01:30.xxx but it only ended up me going of the track a second time breaking to late second last corner, and doing everything thing wrong. And a best time of 01:32.xxx something was made, but that really didn't cut it, was left out off the finals again, and an 11 place finish. Lessons learned from this race then? Keep it f***ing together and if in doubt, just relax and really think it through and remind yourself of the apex/breaking points and so on 😡 don't just hammer it and relaying on that aggressiveness is going to make it fast, no!!!!! Smooth is fast and not the other way around. Second lesson! Don't relay on that everything is going to do just fine if you have a problem, if you got fuel starvation first race, it ain't going to fix its self going higher gears and losing precious time (and this track that even didn't help ☝🏻) Third lesson! Get your shit together!!!! And f***ing drive fast under pressure, and make it fun again!!! Everything is so much easier and better with a big smile. For the King of festival things will be sorted out and that 01:30.xxx will be done!!!! Yesterday I ordered a second fuel pump and hosing, to fix the fuel starvation 👍🏻 Some new wheel alignment will be done, more camber in front an back. Check up corner weight again, and make it as good as possible. Finally a Simpson sport hybrid neck restrain is ordered and on its way, safety first 👌🏻😇 That's all for now I think? A big thanks to my team mates and congrats to Andreas Wiklund how made first place in Club challenge 🥇🏆👌🏻 And congrats to Fredrik Nilsson how made second place in Pro street 🥈🏆👌🏻 And as always really fun that Peter and Ingela is always around and supporting the team, helping with everything and serving food 😃👍🏻 _________________ Carl-Fredrik Wernboe' Kör Toyota GT86 Tanu Club challange 81# |
