Yes it's true, PC Gamer's July 2004 issue lists our beloved GPL as one of the 3 in the Holy Trinity of born again racing sims. (Page 100, Sim column)
It reads as follows....

IMMORTALITY. IT'S A STATUS that's achievable through unsurpassed excellence, or - in the case of PC racing sims - unsurpassed excellence coupled with termination. One needn't look any further than EA/ISI's sublimely entertaining F1 Challenge '99-'02 or Vivendi/Papyrus' timelessly brilliant NASCAR Racing: 2003 and Grand Prix Legends offerings to understand that - with quality race sims - the checkered flag often marks the beginning of the race. All three of these PC race-sim franchises were summarily cancelled by their respective publishers (GPL in 1998, NR 2003 and F1C in 2003), and yet, each still flourishes today. Factor in the detailed craftsmanship and modfriendly code base of each game, and a new Holy Trinity of PC racing sims has been shaped. GRAND PRIX LEGENDS

PAPYRUS' HISTORIC 1967 F1 simulator was so diabolically difficult to master when first released in 1998 that, to this day, GPL faithfuls will hand you your ass if you refer to it as a "game." Its steep learning curve and aging graphics engine notwithstanding, GPL has spawned more than 400

NASCAR RACING: 2003 SEASON

PAPYRUS ABANDONED its lucrative NASCAR license after EA moneyed its way into the picture, but until NASCAR Thunder can develop a hardcore following, PCG's 2003 Sim of the Year will rule the high banks. Much of this longevity is due to the fine efforts of Project Wildfire (www.onlineracin.com/pwf) and the U.S. Pits (www.theuspits.com), whose Trans Am and Touring Car mods have thoroughly transformed this once oval-only racer.
