Hey everyone!

Sorry for writing in English, I'm just learning Swedish.
I moved to Malmö from Russia and brought my time attack-ready car with me. It's a Honda Prelude 5 1997.
Here is a instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/prelude_racespec/
Right now I'm doing a process of importing and inspection through SFRO.

Because I'm new here I have a bunch of noob questions for fellow fast car lovers from Rejsa forum.
Here they are:
1. How people here usually preparing their cars for a racing season? Owning garage isn't possible for me right now but I'm looking for how to rent some.
2. Could you recommend me racing/tuning garages for JDM cars, preferably Honda? It would be super great if it will be in Skåne region.
3. What types of trailers for cars are allowed here? is it possible to use dolly/gypsy trailer?
4. Is it safe to visit any possible bilservice to change oil/brake oil/suspension rubber and other small stuff? maybe there are some services that could let me use their tools?

Thank you!!

Hej och välkommen thumbs up

1. How people here usually preparing their cars for a racing season? Owning garage isn't possible for me right now but I'm looking for how to rent some.

How much work do you need to do on it regularly?

2. Could you recommend me racing/tuning garages for JDM cars, preferably Honda? It would be super great if it will be in Skåne region.

With garage, do you mean an enthusiasts shared hobby garage or a garage as in commercial car service garage? Renting a share in a hobby garage sounds like what you want if you can afford it. Most shared hobby garages are mixed car makes.

3. What types of trailers for cars are allowed here? is it possible to use dolly/gypsy trailer?

Only full trailers are allowed. We also have strict (a bit complicated) weight rules for the trailer and weight of the pulling car. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction for the details!

4. Is it safe to visit any possible bilservice to change oil/brake oil/suspension rubber and other small stuff? maybe there are some services that could let me use their tools?

Commercial garages will not lend you space or tools. And if you want them to do the whole job it is not cheap. But there are places that understand track cars, that can upgrade suspension, change bushings and so on.

The gas station chain OKQ8 though have rent-by-hour car lifts where you can do some service work yourself. They have extremely few tools to lend out though if any at all. And it's quite costly if you need more than an hour or so.

I hope I didn't misunderstand any of your questions

Someone from the South will probably add more good info. But Japtuning.se seems like guys that could help out, they have been running evos in time attack for example for many years.

Wow! Thank you guys for answering me, really appreciate this.

So, another bunch additional of questions

1. Answering Magnus question "How much work do you need to do on it regularly?". Usually, maintaining suspension (checking after time attack sessions), changing brake fluid, bleeding etc.
Also, there is a list of modifications that I want to do during this season:
* Make front fenders wider to fit 17*9 Rims.
* Update front braking disks to ~328 mm with rotor system (currently they are 300mm from Accord CL1 and that's not enough)
* Change engine mounts to polyurethane
* Some assistance with Hondata s300 setup after improving intake system.
I don't what to change anything with my engine this season. It already pretty well made for track use.

2. Do I need to buy insurance? it's mandatory here, right?

3. Can I wear Advan a052 for riding to track and from track (it may be far from Malmo) and sometimes for usual street riding?

4. As I see, there is a calendar of events on Rejsa. The nearest event will be on Sturup raceway (ohh can't wait to test this track but not sure that I finish importing process ). Is it allowed to participate in track meetings for everyone or I need some kind of membership?

5. What is the shared hobby garage? could you please explain it more?

My replies below

Sounds like a shared hobby garage could suit you thumbs up

2. Do I need to buy insurance? it's mandatory here, right?

Every car that use the roads needs to be insured. If a car is not to be driven on public roads at all you can "take it off the road" which is called "ställa av". Then you don't need a car road insurance ("trafikförsäkring"). For example a race car that never is used on the road.

Then there is a totally separate issue of racing licenses for you to be allowed to drive on some events (not only races but also some trackday organizers events) This is a bit messy with different organizers doing these things differently:

- some organizers are under Svenska Bilsportsförbundet (SBF) and on all these events an SBF racing license is obligatory but there are both one day racing licenses and full ones. The organizer will have this info on their web page

- some organizers run with a similar but simpler system under Svenska Motorsports Alliansen (SMA). The Timeattacknu series do this.

- some trackday organizers run under other insurance systems where the participants do not need any kind of racing license

3. Can I wear Advan a052 for riding to track and from track (it may be far from Malmo) and sometimes for usual street riding?

All tyres that have an European approval with an "E" mark are road legal. A052 should have this approval. Sometimes a tyre model can have some sizes approved and others not, although this is quite rare. Always check for "E-märkning" on the tyre itself. Minimum legal thread depth is 1,6mm during summer. Less then that they are illegal.

DOT mark/approval does not make a tyre road legal.

4. As I see, there is a calendar of events on Rejsa. The nearest event will be on Sturup raceway (ohh can't wait to test this track but not sure that I finish importing process ). Is it allowed to participate in track meetings for everyone or I need some kind of membership?

It depends. Some organizers are open to members only, mainly "klubbar" (car make clubs do that but also some regional car clubs, for example Sportvagnsklubben Göteborg and Swedish Porsche Club) but many are open to everyone. General trackday organizers and events held by the racetrack owners themselves are mostly open to anyone. You just have to click on the organizer's link and check what their rules are.

5. What is the shared hobby garage? could you please explain it more?

Quite common here is that a handfull of people join together to rent a larger garage together, that is big enough for everyone's cars. And they each get their own space for their car, tools, extra wheels and just simply share the rent. Some of these hobby garages also have tools that are shared but it's quite common that you just share the rent and each has their own space and tools. But it's a great way to find friends and to be able to help and get help.

Cool! Now, while doing a registering process, I'll search for some local racing garages and ask about shared hobby garages here on Rejsa in Marknadsplatsen topic. Maybe would visit track meet on my "family/car parts carrier" saab just to feel the atmosphere.
Also, hope that we'll meet on a track later!

p.s. more advice regarding local services/garages are welcome.

Can't find words to show how I appreciate these super useful answers. Feeling so excited now.
Thanks!

1. Sounds also like if in emergency you could rent those "gör det själv" place at OKQ8. Bring some friends to make it effeciant

2. If you "ställer av" your car once it is imported, have an "avställningsförsäkring" / off-traffic insurrance, like for fire and other issues that can happen off-traffic

3. Check for below marking...

4. Can't add more to that, else then check this calender on Rejsa

5. My little experience of hobby-garage is that you need to talk to those who you rent from. Some are just happy for the sharing of the rent, and some wants people to work on their cars. It's not appriciated if you never are there and don't add to the social part.

Sorry for the bad english, and sorry if the post sounds negative, text is hard to form in a happy form, don't mean any negative or disrespect....

And welcome to rejsa!

The owner Malkolm is probably the best Honda mechanic and tunder in Sweden.
Its totaly worth a visit if you want the best out of your Honda.

Hey Jonaz. Yeah, I heard cool things about this mechanic. The problem is that he is so far from Malmö. Not sure what kind of work worth traveling so long distance. However, if I'll be near, maybe while a trip to Sthlm or race track near I definitely should visit this workshop, just to say Hi

Hey Anders, wow sounds awesome! I'll definitely PM you after completing registration process.
I'm trying not to tempt fate and meet police guys while I still without correct number plates.

Oh, could you help me with cool tool shops around? I'm looking for some specific car tools like a Brake caliper spreading device or oil filter wrench. Ofc I can order them online but maybe some recommendation about retail shops?

Thanks!

Biltema (www.biltema.se) is considered a low price chain, but their car-specific tools and their 10 year warranty tools is working fine in my experience. They are easily available in Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg.

Hey everyone!

It's me again Finally, car is ready. It was a cool weekend as a helper for MSCC on Knutsorp and a nice track day on Sturup Raceway yesterday.

Now I've got a question regarding coilovers maintenance. Are there any specialists who can do an overhaul and revalving them for harder springs? (Tein coilovers)

p.s. Special thanks to everyone who helped me with advice. So much useful info and really great help!
