5/19/2006 - JL Racing announced today its intention to campaign a pair of Saab 9-3 Sedans in the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs (CASC) ontario Touring Car GT Series. Team Principals John Lockhart, Len Clue, and Jeremy Hamilton provided details of the program which will see the first car ready for the season opener in May.
"We are grateful for the relationship with Saab Canada and are looking forward to having the 9-3 to the race track, showing Canada what a great car it really is", said Lockhart.
Delivery of the cars was in January and JL Racing has been very busy since then building the first car. "Time has been short but we are progressing and have the car almost ready for paint" Clue said adding, "We are focusing on the suspension set up and once at the track will start developing the engine".
The program will see JL Racing race in the Touring 1 Class of the series. The first car will be driven by Lockhart and Clue with Jeremy Hamilton as Crew Chief. The car will run the entire series with JL Racing building the second car based on the results of data collected from campaigning the first car. The Saab 9-3 used by JL Racing utilizes a state of the art 2.0 liter turbo engine with a 5spd transmission, independent suspension, and front wheel drive which will perform well in the T1 Class.
"During construction of the car we very impressed with the build quality of the 9-3, especially how rigid the body is. Saab's engineers have obviously paid consideration to even the smallest details", commented Hamilton. Hamilton has been busy with Clue overseeing the construction of the car and is anxious to get the car to the track and demonstrate the potential of the 9-3.
