Alex Sperafico will drive for HVM Racing at this weekend's Champ Car race at Toronto to replace Ronnie Bremer.

A team spokesperson confirmed to Autosport-Atlas that the Brazilian has been drafted in to replace Bremer, who has been struggling for funding. But Sperafico is only confirmed for the Canadian event, although he could be signed after that for the remaining races of the season.

Sperafico has started ten Champ Car races driving selected events for Conquest Racing in 2004 and Dayle Coyne Racing in 2003.

Crucially, he has experience of the Toronto street track, having secured his best result in the series last season, finishing 10th after qualifying 17th for the team. He retired early from the same race in 2003.

The deal means the 31-year-old will race against his cousin Ricardo at this weekend's event, who drives for Dayle Coyne Racing.
