BRD Sim - Speed7 Steering

The purpose of this release is to give an outline of the main features of the new Speed 7 Steering device as well as details on proposed pricing.

The Speed7 Steering will be released in 2 models, the Sports model and the Pro model. The Sports model will be based on a GT style wheel and the Pro is based on an F1 style wheel.

The base specification is essentially the same for both models, the only differences being the shapes of the steering wheels. The cast aluminium hub for both models is the same so that the two models of wheels can be interchanged.

The Sports model will be available in two versions, an entry level and an advanced level. The Pro model will only be available in the advanced version.


Standard Features of all models:

- Ergonomically designed cast aluminium and carbon fibre steering wheel.
- At least 60 separate and programmable switches/buttons on the steering wheel. These are available via 12 buttons on the wheel with a 5 way function selector to access 60 separate functions.
- There will be a miniature mouse control built into the steering wheel to give ultimate software control from the wheel.
- Independent sequential paddle gear levers.
- The steering wheels are fully demountable via quick release hub arrangement.
- The communication system between the steering column and steering wheel utilises the very latest wireless technology.
- All models incorporate our TMST (Torque Management System) technology that allows the torque delivered to the wheel by the software and the torque put into the wheel by the user to be accurately measured for more accurate and detailed performance.
- The wheel will be multiple turn and programmable for the degrees for rotation desired making it suitable for Formula one style racing through to regular auto racing series.
- High power, high quality 24volt motor giving very powerful force feedback effects.
- Minimum 2500 counts per revolution encoder technology, giving precise positional information and that will never wear out
- Fully compatible with all Immersion Touchsense technology force feedback effects
- Rock solid desk mounting system that allows for steering column angle to be adjusted.


Additional Features of Advanced Model:

- Independent, fully analogue clutch levers.
- LCD panel on steering wheel with fully interactive menu and set up screens that can interact direct with race software.
- Gear change indicator lights on the LCD panel.
- Torque display on wheel, showing level of torque delivered to the wheel.


The prices of these models has not been finalised yet but as a guideline the costs will be in the region of £750 for the entry level model and around £900 for the advanced model.

These steering systems will be the most advanced available, even when compared with high end professional systems used in aerospace and military type applications as part of multi million pound simulators. It does mean that the cost is therefore expensive when compared to existing steering and pedal control systems available, but this product is designed to take the sim racing experience to another level, just as the Speed7 pedals did.

Further details will be released in late March or early April 2005. This will include arrangements for placing advanced orders and full detailed specifications.
