Time for an update.
The beginning of the season has been pretty intense. I have already managed 3 days on gelleråsen, 2 days on Mantorp, 2 days on Knutstorp + a small (ie.e short) participation in SLC 3hours at Mantorp. If I keep that pace my yearly budget will explode ![]() I changed the suspension this winter to a H&R cup kit with uniballs top mount. The improvement is clear as long as the track surface is smooth, otherwise the car kind of bumps along ![]() Still amazed at how robust this car is ! Left stockholm for a week-end at knutstorp, drove 1300km motorway, probably 150 laps on a very warm knutstorp on average around 1,10/11 times, the thing never missed a beat despite the heat and abuse. I just have 3 issues that I have had for a while now, the rear heater blower sounds like it's going to explode when I start the car up when it's really warm, then the valve after the intercooler stays shut on cold startups so I have to give her some gas to start up when cold and finally I have an oil leak somewhere, usually I get 2 drops on the floor on the left side when parked for more than 2 weeks with a high oil level. Overall I can leave with that until the next service (i.e. soon) ! Update of my best times so far (a good way for me to keep track of the progress) Gelleråsen 1,162 Mantorp 1,3150 Knutstorp 1,0850 (have to check that one again on video since my transponder was not on during the 1st stint with PCSR which was the fastest for me) In all cases these times are a bit of a 1 time thing, either a very focused lap or with the help of tough competition, which means I can run 1sec or so above these times all day long on my own but need something extra to push even more. The project goes on !
11 days on the track so far this year ![]() Upgrade list for this time: 1 - Replace the defective rear heater blower causing some overheating on the track on warm days (last week-end on Mantorp). If it's not enough there is always the option to add a second oil cooler. 2 - Remove some more stuff, among them the air injection system (pump and plumbing), the AC compressor support and I will try to remove the muffler, we will see if the car gets to loud or if it's OK. The stock muffler weights a lot and adds a lot to the rear weight bias. Don't know if removing the muffler will take down the power, RUF argues it does..... Overall I hope to remove another 30KG or so, all on the rear wheels. 3 - Make sure I have enough room to fit bigger tyres, I am planning 235s front and 285s rear to replace the 225/265s. All the guys in the fastest class in PCSR run on 235/285 and their cars make less power than mine. I am doing things in small increments trying to build up speed slowly but surely. I feel now much more at ease with the new suspension now. The gain is 1,5 sec on Mantorp, Gelleråsen and Knutstorp. Vincent, it will be very interesting to see if your car will be louder at full throttle, probably not.
I thinking about doing the same thing, more work on my car though since I have an extra o2 sensor installed in the muffler. Do they need to lower the engine to get the AC support out, do you know ? _________________ ![]() Staffan Bergholm, 911 TURBO -91 |

You remember I had no muffler before and it made no difference when I added one. The only diff now is that I have a race cat but I don't think it will be much louder on load. No sorry I don't know, but they will lower it anyways to get the air injection system out. I'll take contact with MTE again when I'am back from holidays, i'll let you know. I have made up my mind, doesn't matter if I can't keep up I will try at least 1 race and see if sprint is somthing for me, if it's as fun as it looks like ![]() I can't say I am bored at trackdays but I feel it's time to move on and who knows, if I like it may be after a while and a lot of USD I will be able to keep up ? Time for an update as this season is over for my car.
New weight is 1409 KG with just under half a tank and me (70KG) in it. Took the opportunity to remove around 25/30KGs during the last big service (mainly the air injection pup and tubes plus some other unnecessary bits and pieces) She is still a whale ![]() Just an update of my best laps this year compared to last (roughly) Gelleråsen 1,154 (1,173) Mantorp 1,292 (1,335) Knutstorp 1,085 (1,095) Everytime the 1st stint in the morning is the fastest then things go from worse to worse (up to 5sec slower on saturday at the end of the day!) I thought it was mostly that I got tired or less motivated but a chat with the Michlelin guys on sunday suggests that I am taking down my tyre pressure way to much. A good thing to keep in mind for next year. Now I have to plan for next season. Still need at least 1sec on all tracks to have fun in Klass 1 with PCSR but there is a lot more to do on the car. An update is long overdue
Latest modifications 6 speed 993 gearbox = improved engine response, much less turbo lag but a different driving style compared to what I am used to. Race clutch and light weight fly wheel 993GT wing and some kind of front spoiler. She now weights almost exactly 1300 KGs empty. Which means the initial goal is reached, the car has been in a race and is now a race car ! Next goal has to be to win a race ![]() She help up really well mechanically even if we together were a step behind cars in the same category (OK I finished 2nd in Klass 3 but we were only 2 haha !). To much horse power gives to high weight + rookie driver = 2,5sec behind the best in Klass 3 ![]() Good news is there are still huge things to do to improve performance but I have promised myself to stop there at least for now ! _________________ Vincent Mannent Porsche 964 3,3T |
