Which in Dan's case was 196 mph as he rocketed down the straight after Burnenville. "I was hunkered down, trying to get my head as low as I could, knowing that coming up is the Masta Kink, which looked like a sharp turn at those speeds. You couldn't see the end of it as you cut first to the left and then to the right, but if you could make it flat-out, as I did with the 1.5-liter Brabham, it was a huge advantage. You could gain maybe 100 meters on someone who couldn't go flat-out. I tried to make it flat in the Eagle and I got to the point where I backed off only a bit. "There's more straightaway after the kink, and remember that we've been going downhill almost continuously from the top, so you're going very fast on this narrow road when you get to the Stavelot corner." _________________ ![]() |
